Welcome, Frillies! I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where I developed a serious affinity for writing and fashion. As a child, I used to write plays, design clothing for my Barbie Dolls, and play dress up at the local mall. As I got older, my love for fashion grew into a straight up obsession as I had subscriptions to every teen fashion magazine like Seventeen, Teen, Mademoiselle, YM and Cosmopolitan, and would dream about the day I could move to NYC to work as a fashion writer.
In September 2001, I finally moved to NYC to work as an intern at Cosmopolitan Magazine, but my plans were put on hold due to 9/11. So, instead I picked up a waitressing job at Blue Fin at the W Hotel where I waited on some of fashion's biggest names like Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang and Calvin Klein. Finally, after a year of waiting, I was able to complete my fashion internship at Cosmopolitan, and then went on to work as an Editorial Assistant at First for Women Magazine. From there, I worked as a publicist for some of the fashion and beauty industry's biggest brands, and I got to not only cover New York Fashion Week many years in a row, but I also worked backstage with Bobbi Brown, who was my client at the time.
I went back to writing after landing a gig as a Copywriter for Macy's, and spent my free time reviewing bars, restaurants, and shops for the Zagat Guide. In 2011, I got a job as a Marketing Copywriter for Victoria's Secret where I mastered the art of writing sexily. In 2012, I switched over to Saks Fifth Avenue where I wrote for hundreds of luxury brands and managed to max out my Saks Fifth Avenue credit cards just so I could take advantage of the amazing corporate discounts.
After 14 years of living out my dreams in NYC, I moved back to Washington, DC and took a job as a Communications Specialist at the Department of Health & Human Services. Following that stint, I worked as a Copywriter for Capital One and freelanced for a local designer resale company called LePrix. Fast forward to today, and I've also worked in Digital Intelligence, Cybersecurity and also for a top Microsoft partner.
Despite such a wide variety of industries on my resume, fashion is still my #1 passion. The Pandemic forced me to rethink life and shift my focus back to what I really love... playing dress up! I was very fortunate to stumble upon My Subscription Addiction, and since then I've been living out my dreams one week at a time as a reviewer for direct-to-consumer retail rental companies like Rent the Runway, Armoire, Rocksbox and LeTote, and every week I get to try on a new set of items and review them too.
Today, I'm back at Capital One, but also building up my style coaching business while also writing for My Subscription Addiction, LePrix, The Zoe Report, and various eCommerce companies.
My bunny, Mr. Hoppy Golightly (Mr. HGL), has a serious eye for style and sometimes develops an attitude if he doesn't approve of my looks.
